This is Henry Barstow (b. 3 Dec 1817) son of Benjamin and Rebecca Hammond Barstow. From the book "Genealogy of the Southworths" comes the comment about Henry Barstow: "He went to California in the gold-fever times." 

Henry died 13 Apr 1897, having outlived his wife and children.

Married in 1842 to Mary Southworth (1823-1892), daughter of Andrew Southworth and Sarah Clark and they had children:
  -  Sarah Barstow-Johnson (1842-1883) m. Rev. Wilbur Johnson. No children.
 - Henry Barstow Jr (1847-1871), attended Harvard, studying to be a Civil Engineer, died of consumption (tuberculosis).

NOTE - this photo of Henry Barstow was found clipped to a photo of Freeman Cobb of Boston MA. I find that both men were members of the Massachusetts State Senate in the same years (1864-1865)
