ELOM BAKER
Identification on photo: "Elam Baker, North Kane, PA"
Photo taken: H.E. Chase & Son Studio, 2550 Broadway, Cleveland OH, circa 1885-1892
Purchased: 2017 Aug Madison-Bouckville Antiques Week
The fact that this photo has gold beveled edges points to a time period of between 1885-1892. The photographic studio was in business at the given location from at least 1891-1893 (possibly also earlier and later).
Although the man in the photo has the beginnings of male pattern baldness, his skin appears to be young with very few wrinkles. I'd place his age at around 35. If the photo was taken in 1891, then a good target birth year is 1856.
Moving now to Ancestry.com the right fellow is quickly found. This is ELOM DELANCY BAKER of North Kane, PA. He was born 7 Nov 1857 in Cortland NY to parents William R. Baker and Olive Abigail "Polly" Case. He was a foreman in the lumber industry, a farmer, and also drove the Clarion school bus later in life.
At age 33, on 5 May 1891, he married Nannie McKinsey (also 33) who was his second wife, the first was Clara Davis from whom he was divorced two years earlier.
Elom died 29 Jan 1945 of pneumonia. He and Nannie are buried at the Helen Furnace Cemetery in Clarion County, PA.
