ESTABROOKS, Orson and Temperence (Malone NY)

ORSON & TEMPERENCE ESTABROOKS

UPDATE - this photo has been claimed by the couple's great-great-grandson, and is going home!

IDENTIFICATION ON PHOTO: "Uncle Orson & Aunt Tempy Estabrooks"
PHOTO TAKEN: Chas. J. Ferris Studio, Malone NY, circa 1888-90
PURCHASED: 2019 August Brandywine River Antique Mall, Chadds Ford PA

The time period of 1888-1890 seems appropriate for this image based upon the fashions of the form-fitting short-waisted dress top over the draped-front skirt. The man's jacket is typical of the 1880s, with small lapels and only the top button fastened. This style was seen as early as 1879, more popular during the 1880s, and not seen much at all after about 1891.

This is Orson E. Estabrooks (1828-1898, son of Nathaniel and Anna Estabrooks) of Franklin County, NY, and his wife Temperence Pond (1832-1910).

Temperence is a daughter of Simeon Pond (a son of Revolutionary War soldier Paul Pond) & Susannah Edgerly.

They had a son, Harvey E. Estabrooks (1853-1928).

Harvey Estabrooks married Mary Lawrence, and had only one child:
 - Ella May Estabrooks (1892-1981).

Ella May Estabrooks was married to Lawrence Friend on March 26, 1913. They had four children:
 - Evelyn F. Friend, b. 1916, d. 2002 (Teacher at public school) m. Everal Smith (Johnson City NY)
 - Eva R. Friend, b 1918, d. 1999, m. Robert Ames (Ithaca NY)
 - Earl Maynard Friend, 1922, m. Helen G. Moore (Burke NY)
 - Jean M. Friend, 1924, m. Carlton Van Ornum (Rome NY)

I can track descendancies further, but will not include that information here as those people are undoubtedly living and my policy is to protect the privacy of living people as much as possible.
