These two photos were purchased together from the same booth at an antiques mall.

James Edward English, born 17 Sep 1868, in New Haven CT to parents Benjamin Rice English (a real estate agent) and Theresa Henrietta Farren. He had at least two siblings, a younger sister, Grace Louisa English (1877-1895) who died at age 18, and a brother Benjamin F. English. James grew up to follow in his fathers career of real estate agent. He was also the treasurer of the New Haven Parks Commission.

At age 17, James married Gertrude Mather Worth (1868-1950, daughter of Paul Worth and Harriet Mather Congdon.)

They had three children:
 1900 - (twin) Grace Atherton English (d. 1942)
 1900 - (twin) Worth English (d. 1990)
 1902 - Benjamin Worth English (d. 1986)

James died 2 Feb 1907 in New Haven and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery. This obit was located in the Morning Journal-Courier, New Haven CT, 4 Feb 1907.

On the 1920 Census, twin Worth English is now listed as a son, whereas 10 years earlier he was recorded as a daughter.

Grace's twin brother Worth (attended Yale) shows up on the 1940 Census in Berkeley California, working as an insurance underwriter.

Grace, a local celebrity as a female golfer, died unexpectedly in 1942.
