BARNTHOUSE, James H. and wife

James Hiniman Barnthouse and
wife Catharine Mathews-Barnthouse
UPDATE - James Barnthouse and his wife have been claimed by a relative and they are going home! This photo was found in an Antique Fair in Vero Beach, Florida, but the booth owner is from upstate New York. Like most booth owners I have met, they did not remember how they came to possess this particular image.

The photo mat is stamped "Ischanen Studio, Upper Sandusky, Ohio" and appears to have been taken around 1895.

The couple in the photo appear to be around 65 years of age, thus birth years will be near 1830.

On the back, the hand-written note says "From James H. Barnthouse, Harpster, O. RFD (?) 1"

Harpster is a town just south of Upper Sandusky.

1990 Census Antrim township, Wyandot County, OH
James H. Barnthouse, 67, Nov 1932, born in Penn, Farmer
Catharine Barnthouse, 66, Apr 1834, born in Ohio
Vernon Barnthouse, 19, June 1880, grandson, born in Ohio, farm labor

According to Ancestry.com records, James' middle name appears to be Hiniman. His wife was born Catharine Mathews (1834-1904).

James died on Feb 19, 1910, his wife having preceded him by a few years. This newspaper insert is taken from the "Marion Star", Marion, Ohio, Wednesday 23 Feb 1910:

  2. Thank you for posting. I have already sent the original to a family member, but your ex-husband or anyone else in his family are always welcome to snag a digital copy for their family tree.
